Golden State Continues to Meet Water Quality Standards for Clearlake Customers Ongoing monitoring has shown that the quality of water Golden State Water Company (GSWC) supplies to its Clearlake customers routinely meets, or is better than, federal and state standards. The results of water quality monitoring in 2010 for Golden State’s Clearlake water system were published in an annual Water Quality Report and distributed to all of the company’s Clearlake customers in 2011 (see attachment at bottom of this page). “It’s our job to test for more than 100 substances in the water to meet all regulations and provide the highest quality water possible,” said Keith Ahart, Golden State’s Clearlake superintendent. “We will continue to work hard to make sure we maintain this level of service.” The company gets 100 percent of its raw water from Clear Lake and the water is treated at the company’s Sonoma Treatment Plant. GSWC uses a multi-barrier approach to treat the raw water, which frequently contains extensive algal blooms. The treatment process involves several steps including settling, pressure filtration and disinfection. In addition, carbon filters remove any remaining taste and odor-causing compounds related to the blue-green algae.
