Plan Filed to Establish New Rates

in Arden Cordova Customer Service Area
for 2011 and 2012

Golden State Water Company filed a General Rate Case application with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in January 2010 to establish rates for the Arden Cordova Customer Service Area for the years 2011 and 2012. If approved, the new rates would cover the increasing cost to operate and maintain the local water system and fund more than $9.1 million in local capital investments. Golden State Water Company honors
Rancho Cordova Elementary School
for participating in water awareness program

Mary Howard’s class at Rancho Cordova Elementary School on May 27 received Golden State Water Company promotional items that encourage conservation as a result of participating in a water awareness program. The class also demonstrated their knowledge about water conservation. “It was impressive to hear the children name the different components of the water cycle,” said John Turner, GSWC water conservation coordinator.

Howard participated in the Sacramento Bee and the Regional Water Authority’s Newspapers in Education (NIE) program to help her students understand the importance of water.  Teachers who participate receive teaching materials and a chance to win prizes from Radio Disney.  Ms. Howard’s class was chosen at random to receive Radio Disney prizes. Besides distributing items promoting conservation, GSWC sponsored a pizza party for the class and donated school supplies.

Rancho Cordova December 9th Open House

Paul Schubert, District Manager for the Northern Region, provided a presentation about the company's Cordova Meter Install Program during a Dec. 9, 2009 meeting.  GSWC will receive $9 million in stimulus money for the project that will help the company meet state law requirements for installing meters for all customers.  Read about the customer benefits here.

Approximately $27.4 Million Invested
in the Arden Cordova Customer Service Area since 2000

The company operates two water systems in the Arden Cordova Customer Service Area: the Arden Water System and the Cordova Water System. Golden State Water Company (GSWC) is constantly improving its water infrastructure in these systems to ensure its supply, distribution, and storage systems are adequate. Since 2000 approximately $27.4 million has been invested in infrastructure in the Arden Cordova Customer Service area.

"Our approach to infrastructure improvements keeps the system properly maintained and reduces risk of significant failures," said GSWC's Northern District Manager Paul Schubert. 

GSWC is regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission, which established a Water Action Plan. One of the six objectives of the plan is to promote water infrastructure investment.  Nationally, leaking pipes lose an estimated seven billion gallons of clean drinking water a day, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers.

California Alternate Rates for Water (CARW)


Financial Assistance. You may qualify for a discount on your water bill. Golden State Water Company offers a 15%* rate discount through the California Alternate Rates for Water (CAWR) program. If you qualify for a rate discount on your electricity, you may be eligible for a discount on your water bill. Qualifications are based on the number of people living in your home and your total household income, including wages, government checks and benefits, and other financial support you and members of your family receive. *The Commission’s Division of Ratepayer Advocates and GSWC agreed that the monthly CARW credits for qualifying customers be based on a fixed 15% discount on an average bill for 15 hundred cubic feet (Ccf) of water in each of the CSA’s.

WATER CONSERVATION REBATE PROGRAMS

Golden State Water Company partners with other agencies to offer various rebate programs as an incentive for customers to purchase water-efficient products. Here are some programs created for the Arden Cordova Customer Service Area. Funding is limited.

High-Efficiency Clothes Washer (HECW) Rebates

Residential, multi-family property owners are eligible

Rebates up to $225, depending on the efficiency of the clothes washer
