Sunil Pillai To Serve As Vice President of Environmental Quality
Golden State Water Company (Golden State Water) recently announced that Sunil Pillai has been promoted to Vice President of Environmental Quality. In this role, Pillai is responsible for overseeing the company’s Water Quality, Environmental Compliance, Water Resources and Water-Use Efficiency departments.
Golden State Water’s Environmental Quality division is tasked with ensuring the utility continues meeting compliance with drinking water, environmental, and health and safety regulations. The department also oversees companywide emergency preparedness and employee training programs.
“We are very excited to have Sunil in this new role leading our dedicated team of professionals in the Environmental Quality Department,” said Senior Vice President of Regulated Utilities Denise Kruger. “Sunil has held leadership positions across several areas during his tenure with Golden State Water. That path combined with his expertise in water quality makes him a great fit for this position.”
Pillai’s tenure with Golden State Water has spanned 16 years, and he has nearly three decades of experience in the water industry. Over the last five years, he co-managed the utility’s 22-person Water Quality team responsible for testing, treatment and maintaining compliance throughout its 37 water systems in the state.
“We have a very talented Water Quality team that takes great pride in the work it does,” Pillai said. “At the end of the day, we are tasked with providing peace of mind to customers that reliable, quality water will be at their taps when they need it. We take the responsibility seriously.”
Prior to serving as Water Quality Manager, Pillai was General Manager of Golden State Water’s Central District that provides service to more than 50,000 connections in Los Angeles County. He has also served as a manager in the utility’s Engineering Design Department.
Pillai is a member of the American Water Works Association and the American Society of Civil Engineers. He earned a master’s in Civil Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the College of Engineering in Trivandrum, India. Pillai is also a registered Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
