Non-Functional Turf Irrigation Regulations
In October 2023, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1572 to restrict the use of potable water for irrigating non-functional turf on commercial and industrial properties. Beginning in 2027, business owners, public agencies and other entities will be restricted from using potable water on their decorative grass areas.
Urban Water Use Regulations
The California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) has adopted a new urban water use regulation, “Making Conservation a California Way of Life” that went into effect January 1, 2025. According to the state, the regulations will help save 500,000 acre-feet of water annually by 2040.
