Nipomo – Important Information About Your Water

Pod

To protect the community’s access to clean drinking water, on September 8, 2025 Golden State Water Company will begin receiving a new source of water supply. Golden State Water Company is participating with Nipomo Community Services District (NCSD) and Woodlands Mutual Water Company to import water from the City of Santa Maria.  We refer to this program as the Nipomo Supplemental Water Project (NSWP).

With this new source of water comes new methods of treating your drinking water. In contrast to groundwater, the NSWP source of water includes surface water from Northern California lakes and rivers, and is treated with chloramines, not free chlorine. This safe method of water treatment is used throughout the region and does not affect the taste of your water.

Some customers will receive water that uses chloramines as a disinfectant.  While we do not expect our customers to notice any difference, some customers who use a dialysis machine or have fish may need to take preventive measures.

This new source of water is essential to ensuring that our customers continue to have access to reliable, quality drinking water.
