Ball Well No. 1, Iron & Manganese Removal System (West Orange County)

Investing in Reliable Water Infrastructure in Los Alamitos

Post

Golden State Water Company is committed to responsibly maintaining local water infrastructure so we can continue providing customers with premium water service so they never have to think twice about the quality of their water. To fulfill this commitment, we are is making proactive investments to upgrade water supply and delivery facilities, creating sustainable, long-term value for the communities we serve. These forward-looking investments help prevent the costly and sometimes dangerous impacts of deferred maintenance or aging infrastructure, while ensuring a resilient water system for the future.

An example of an investment in water infrastructure in your local area is the Ball Well No. 1, Iron & Manganese Removal System project serving the West Orange County system in the Los Alamitos customer service area. The existing well at the Ball plant is one of the critical sources of supply for the system. Although manganese levels were below the secondary Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL), the system periodically received colored water complaints.

Completed in October 2024, the project included installation of an ATEC filter system, a backwash tank, a new chemical building, grading and paving at the site, SCADA controls, and electrical upgrades to control and monitor the treatment process. In conjunction with the system’s unidirectional flushing program, the new treatment system will help reduce the occurrence of discolored water and support Golden State Water’s continued delivery of high-quality, reliable drinking water.
