Compton-Doty Well Replacement – Southwest
Investing in Reliable Water Infrastructure in Southwest
Golden State Water Company is committed to responsibly maintaining local water infrastructure so we can continue providing customers with safe, reliable water service they can depend on every day. To fulfill this commitment, we are making proactive investments to upgrade our water supply and delivery facilities, creating sustainable, long-term value for the communities we serve. These forward-looking investments help prevent the costly and sometimes disruptive impacts of deferred maintenance or aging infrastructure, while ensuring a resilient water system for the future.
An example of an investment in water infrastructure in your local area is the Compton-Doty Well Replacement project, currently underway in our Southwest system. This project will replace Compton-Doty Well #1, which was drilled in 1947 and had a capacity of 600 gallons per minute. The existing well has reached the end of its useful service life and has been out of service for the last 10 years due to water quality issues. The new Compton-Doty Well #2 is expected to produce up to 1,000 gallons per minute, strengthening local groundwater supply for the Southwest system.
The project also includes constructing a new transmission line to convey water from the Compton-Doty plant site to the Doty plant site, where it will undergo advanced treatment before entering the distribution system. Once complete, these improvements will help ensure a safe, reliable groundwater supply, reduce reliance on purchased water, and strengthen long-term system resilience for customers. The entire project, including treatment, is expected to be completed by December 2027.
